Archibald Lorrimer Brown noted on his enlistment WW1 Attestation Paper that he had previously served for 1 year and 3 months in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, South African (Boer) War. This can be matched with his photo in The Queenslander newspaper of 3 Mar 1900 p. 409 & 411 where he stated his NOK resided at 'Wyuna', Brown Terrace, Brisbane.

He served in the South African (Boer) War under the name of Archibald Brown as a Private S.N. 298 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry. He enlisted in WW1 under his full name of Archibald Lorrimer Brown. He was slightly wounded in action in August 1916 before being captured and taken POW on 2 Feb 1917 at Grandicourt and interred at Limberg, Germany untill his repatriation to England on 28 Nov 1918.
