Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Percy (Percival) Lyddon Brown enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as W. R. Mayes, South Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 15, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his brother-in-law Mr W. R. Mayes, South Brisbane. William Robert Mayes married his older sister Eleanor Mary Brown in 1892.

Percy Lyddon Brown was born on 9 Jan 1882 in Queensland, a son to William Brown and Caroline Rosina Brown (nee Lyddon). He married Ethel Russell on 7 Mar 1905 in Queensland and they had 2 children. He was working as a Commercial Traveller with the Brisbane firm of Brown and Tregear in 1920. On 28 Dec 1920 he was bathing on the beach at Scarborough, Redcliffe, when he collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack.
