Son of Fortescue Moresby BUFFETT and Emma nee QUINTAL

Buffett arrived in Sydney from Norfolk Island on 21.2.1900, volunteered with other Norfolk Islanders, was selected to join the Sixth (N S W) Imperial Bushmen and was posted to C Company

Following significant training in Sydney he embarked with the 6th Bushmen on the SS “Armenian” for South Africa on 23 .4.1900 arriving at Beira in Portuguese East Africa on 27 February.

From Beira the 6th Bushmen moved inland to Marandellas and joined the Rhodesian Field Force with which Buffett served until becoming ill. He was classified unfit for service and was repatriated from South Africa on SS “Chicago” 6.2.1901, arriving in Australia on 5.3.1901.  Buffett was formally struck off the Sixth Imperial Bushmen’s roll on 27.2.1901
