After his Boer War Service he joined the Permanent Military Forces of the Commonwealth rising to Sergeant S.N. QP1113 and in the midst of that service also served in WW1, Warrant Officer 1st Class/Regimental Sergeant Major S.N. 2176, 2nd Australian Remount Unit, AIF.

When he enlisted in 1901 for the Boer war in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father R. R. O. Casey, Richmond, Melbourne. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 44, his address was noted as Bundaberg.

He returned from the Boer war in May 1902 and in 1904 applied for a commission with the Military Forces of the Commonwealth: Permanent Forces. In his Attestation Paper, dated 17 Dec 1904, it is noted that; he was born at Beechworth, Victoria, on 11 Jan 1874 and was 28 years 11 months of age; he was a labourer and single; and he had previously served with the 5th QIB in South Africa.

While a serving member of the Permanent Forces he enlisted again in 1915 for WW1. On his Attestation Paper, dated 30 Sep 1915, it is noted that; he was born at Beechworth, Victoria, and was 39 years 9 months of age; he was married and was a soldier; his N.O.K. was his wife Mrs. E. J. Casey, Paddington, Brisbane, and he had previously served in South Africa. He rejoined the Permanent Forces after he was discharged from his WW1 servce.

Edward Chaplin Casey was born on 11 Jan 1874 at Beechworth, Victoria, a son to Richard Casey and Mary Elizabeth Casey (nee Chaplin). he was twice married. He first married Eliza Jane Rapley on 30 Dec 1908 at Christ Church, Milton, Brisbane, and they had 3 children before Eliza passed in 1932. He then married Sarah Ruth Womersley (nee Charlton) in 1933 at Murwillumbah, NSW, who was a widow and mother of 7 children from her previous marriage.

After he was medically discharged from the Permanent Forces in 1932 he retired to Coolangatta, Gold Coast, where he passed in 1939.
