19 Dec 1900: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 295, 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, National Archives Australia- Boer War Dossier notes invalided due to Enteric Fever returned to Australia aboard Harlech Castle arriving Brisbane 12 Dec 1900, discharged 19 Dec 1900.

James Clarke served twice in the South African (Boer) War. First service was as a Private S.N. 295 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen from which he was invalided and returned for discharge in Dec 1900. His second service was as a Private S.N. 658 in the 1st Draft of the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen with the Nominal Roll (Murray, p. 519) notes all but 3 of the soldiers had served in a previous contingent.
