Biography contributed by VWM Australia

Mrs. John Cochran, of 5 North-road, Elsternwick, has received a cable from the War Office to the effect that her son, Major Frank Eardley Cochran, of the South African Infantry, is missing since the 24th March. Major Cochran left for South Africa as a member of the 1st Victorian Bushmen's Contingent during the Boer War, was invalided home, and returned again with the 1st Commonwealth Contingent. At the cessation of the Boer War he remained in South Africa. At the outbreak of the present war he fought through the German South-West African campaign as Staff-Captain under Colonel Royston, of Royston's Horse. He then left for France with the South African Infantry, and has been in France for the last eighteen months, and attained the rank of Major. Major Cochran is one of the leading South African tennis players, having won numerous championships. He partnered the late Anthony Wilding when he visited the Transvaal.
