Arthur Edward Cole was born in 1880, on June 19th and died of old age on the 1st of August, 1970. He lived in Mile End, 48A Rose St with his wife and four children. He was of medium complexion and had brown hair and eyes. He served in the Boer war, giving his age as 22 years old, his service number being 1003. He enlisted for the First World War on the 22nd of October, 1917, at the age of 37. Arthur E. Cole was a part of the Railway Unit (AIF) as a private. He got the nominal role of sapper and moved the 5th Broad Gauge Railway Operating Company.

Arthur E. Cole embarked from Port Sydney, Melbourne on the HMAT A15, (originally called the STAR OF ENGLAND.) The boat carried troops and horses, including the 12th battalion that was part of the initial landing at Gallipoli and later at the Western Front. He went to Alexandria, Egypt on the 18th of December, 1917 and disembarked in Taranto, Italy, 22nd of December, 1917.

When Arthur E. Cole returned to Australia, he earned the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
