BOER WAR VETERAN
DIES AT CURR1E.
MR HERBERT COX AT 78.
When Mr Herbert Cox died at the King Island Public Hospital, at the age of 78, ou the morning of 3rd August there passed another of the now small band of those men who took part in the South African War. His last illness had lasted over a very long period and was of a painful nature but he bore his affiction with fortitude. Mr Cox came to this country with, his parents as a child of four. He was born in Kent, England. It was while living at Kindred on the north-west coast of Tasmania that he enlisted and went to South Africa. Married on return to Miss Annie Euphemia King, be and his family eveutually have over a very long space of years become well known and respected figures in King Island life. Dairying operations in the north occupied his more active
years, at which time he also took a keen and active interest in local sporting activities.
Mrs Cox predeceased her husband by 26 years. Their children are Mary (Mrs B. N. Harris), Doris (Mrs W. Bell), Nell (Mrs Faulkner), all of King Island, Herbert of Auburn, N.S.W., Kathleen (Mrs Terry) of Brunswick, Vic., and Jack of King Island. There are 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren/  Rev. Cousins conducted the funeral services at the Methodist Church and Currie Cemetery.
