Joseph Cunningham was born in Scotland about 1875. He served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 148 in the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, secon as a Private S.N. 938 in the 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse.
