Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Hubert John Daniell was born in Jan 1872 at Frome, Somerset, England, a son to Alfred Frederick Daniell and Lily Emma Duffett Daniell (nee Lord). He died while holidaying at Armidale in New South Wales with newspaper report noting he was married and residing at Gilgai, New South Wales, where he was known as 'Johnny Lord'.

Its unclear when he came to Australia but he was in Queensland by 1900 when he first enlisted and gave his father as N.O.K. living at Malvern, Victoria. He was photographed twice with the enlistment photos of soldiers in The Queenslander newspaper in two different contingents, on 19 May 1900 S.N. 281 with the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, and on 16 Mar 1901 S.N. 65 with the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen. However, he only appears once in the Nomial Roll compiled by Murray as S.N. 65 in the 5th QIB so it is assumed for some reason he did not embark with the 4th QIB.
