Biography contributed by John Edwards

"THE LATE COL. W. T. DEACON, C.B., V.D.

Yesterday afternoon Mr. T. J. Barker, an behalf of Mrs. W. T. Deacon, handed over to the care of Mr. J. S. Aspinall, president of the Ipswich Navy and Army Veterans' Association, an enlarged photo of her late husband. It is an excellent specimen of photographic art, the work of Mr. F. A. Whitehead, of Brisbane-street, and bears the following inscription:-

"Presented to the Ipswich Navy and Army Veterans' Association, October, 1916. Colonel W. T. Deacon, C.B., V.D. South Africa, 1900. Born 10th July, 1850, Died, May 4, 1916."

The late Col. Deacon was vice-patron of the Veterans' Association from its inception, and at all times evinced a keen interest in the goings of the asociation. With a view of keeping his memory green, Mrs. Deacon presented the photo to the members, and at the next general meeting of the body named Mr. Barker will make the presentation." - from the Queensland Times 06 Dec 1916 (nla.gov.au)
