Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Enlisted under the name R. P. Donaldson. His full name Robert Philp Donaldson appears in the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 516.

When R. P. (Robert Philp) Donaldson enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as K. E. Donaldson, Baulkham Hills, Parramatta, NSW. In the original Nominal Roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. is noted as his father K. E. Donaldson, Baulkham Hills, Parramatta, NSW. These entries contain a typographical error for his fathers name. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 111, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his father Mr. R. E. Donaldson, Balkham Hills, NSW.

Robert Philp Donaldson was born on 27 Feb 1878 at Mackay, Queensland, a son to Robert Edward Donaldson and Agnes Leys Donaldson (nee Philp). When his father passed at Brisbane in 1921, newspaper obituaries note he was a pioneer of the sugar industry at Mackay and later of Fiji and New South Wales.

Robert Philp Donaldson married Maud Evelyn Middleton on 22 Jan 1913 in Queensland and they had 2 children.
