Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Timothy Herbert Doyle enlisted in 1901 and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as T. Doyle, Windorah, Queensland. At the time of his enlistment he was living in Ipswich and was serving as a police officer in the Queensland Police Force, a position he resigned in order to enlist. The Queensland Police Museum has collated his service record, see links.

Timothy Herbert Doyle was born in 1875 at Dubbo, NSW, a son to Timothy Doyle and Catherine Doyle (nee Abbey). When he enlisted in 1901 his parents were living at Windorah, Qld, where they resided until they passed respectively in 1928 and 1936.

Prior to enlisting he had joined the Queensland Police Force in Jul 1898 serving in Brisbane, and then Ipswich when he resigned on 16 Mar 1901 in order to enlist for the South African (Boer) war. During his war service he was promoted to Company Quartermaster Sergeant and was 'mentioned in despatches' on two occasions for gallantry. When he returned from the war in Jun 1902 he returned to the Queensland Police Force where he was reappointed 30 Jul 1902 serving at Brisbane, Emerald and Rockhampton where he resigned 28 Dec 1903.

In Jan 1904 he joined the New South Wales Police Force stationed at Tenterfield before transferring to Inverell in Jun 1904. Newspaper reports note while at Inverell he became ill, eventually leading to his admission to the Inverell Hospital where he died from medical complications on 25 Aug 1904. Its reported he was interred at the Inverell Cemetery in the Roman Catholic section.
