When William Drew enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB his entry on the original Nominal Roll of the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, noted his N.O.K. as his sister Mrs. J. McAlister, Laidley. His sister Mary Jane Drew had married Joseph McAlister in 1897 in Queensland and they were living at Forest Hill near Laidley in 1901.
