Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Also served in WW1, Private S.N. 1157, 2nd Light Horse Regiment AIF.

When he enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB (Boer War) and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. K. Ducrot, Grafton, NSW. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 19, it notes he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs K. Ducrot, Grafton NSW.

When he enlsited at Ayr, Qld, in Dec 1914 for WW1 he noted on his Attestation Form that; he was single, aged 37, born at West Maitland, NSW; his N.O.K. was his sister Blanche Ducrot at Grafton, NSW; he was a labourer; and he had previously served in the 6th QIB in the South African (Boer) War.

He was born Ignatius James Ducrot in 1877 at Maitland, NSW, a son to Louis Ducrot and Katheleen (alt. Catherine) Ducrot (nee O'Connell). He married Olive Virginia Steele on 4 Jul 1921 in Queensland and they had 2 children. It appears he resided in a number of areas along the east coast of Queensland. He was in the Ayr/Home Hill area when he enlisted in 1914. When his two sons enlisted for WW2 they noted they were born in Home Hill and Charters Towers and that their parents were living in Innisfail, and later Ashgrove- Brisbane.
