Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When George Ephraim Ezzey enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. M. A. Ezzey, Richmond, NSW. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 2 p. 130, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. M. A. Ezzey, Grose Vale, Richmond, NSW.

George Ephraim Ezzey was born on 8 Nov 1874 in the Richmond district, NSW, a son to Henry Ezzey and Mary Ann Ezzey (nee Whitney). Though a native of NSW he was living at Amby, Qld, when he enlisted in 1901. He was discharged in South Africa and remained there to take up employment.

It appears he was engaged to a Queenslander, Catherine (Katherine) Boyd, prior to enlistment and he sent for her to join him in South Africa following his discharge. They were married on 9 Nov 1904 at Pretoria, South Africa. He was working for the Trigonometrical Survey Department in Pretoria and they remained there where they had 4 children. They never returned to Australia with George passing there in Oct 1938.
