When Michael Farry enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as J. Farry, Australian National Hotel, East Brisbane. James Farry was the owner/Licensed Victualler of the Australian National Hotel from about 1892 to 1907.

Michael Farry was born on 27 Sep 1868 in Queensland, a son (of 11 children) to James Farry and Ann Farry (nee Martin). He married Leonora Stafford Kissick on 25 Nov 1912 in Queensland. They moved to Marchmont near Longreach to work not long before he passed at his own hands.
