When William Forrest Flattley enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Aug 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as J. Flattley, Brunswick Melbourne. In the original Nominal Roll for the 6th QIB, held by National Archives Australia, his N.O.K. is noted as his father J. Flattley, Brunswick, Melbourne, Vic.
He was born William Forrester Flattley in 1879 at Fitzroy, Melbourne, a son to James Flattley and Elizabeth (Eliza) Flattley (nee Aldwell). He married Sarah Beatrice Hauptfleisch on 7 Aug 1914 at St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, and they resided in Merbein near Mildura, Victoria. His wife Sarah was born in Western Cape, South Africa.
