Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When William Richard Foulston enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. G. Foulston, Upper Clapton, England.
He was invalided from service in South Africa with the Boer War Service Paybook indicating he returned aboard the Damascus. Newspaper reports in Nov 1901 from Victoria indicate, however, he missed his original allotted transport home and instead caught the next being the Damascus with the Captain of the vessel reporting him, along with two others, as a stowaway and not paying for their passage. At a court hearing in Melbourne Foulston was recognised as an invalided soldier and discharged from proceedings, the other two were convicted and fined.
Following his return to and discharge in Brisbane, the Boer War Service Paybooks note his address as being at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane.
