Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Edward Francis enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. J. W. Francis, Laidley. In the original nominal roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. was recorded to be his mother. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 3 p. 153, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. E. Francis, Laidley.
Edward Francis was born in about 1880 in England, a son to James William Francis and Elizabeth Francis (nee Price). When his father, James, passed in 1933 an obituary was published in The Queensland Times, 18 Feb 1933. It noted he had emigrated from England with his wife and then children (more were born in Qld) to Queensland, settling in Laidley, 48 years prior and spent his years engaged in farming.
Edward Francis married Lillian Jane Morgan on 17 Jun 1908 at Laidley and they had 3 children, and lived and farmed at Thornton via Laidley.
