Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Note- his younger brother, Private Charles Fraser S.N. 499, also served in the South African (Boer) war in the draft of the 5th QIB.

When James Fraser enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted hus N.O.K. as his father John Fraser, Glenrosa Road, Red Hill, Brisbane. When his brother Charles' details were published with the rank and file in the same newspaper he also nominated the same N.O.K.

James Fraser was born on 4 Jul 1880 in Queensland, a son to John Fraser and Mary Fraser (nee Trail or Traill). In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 1 p. 33, it is noted his address after discharge was at Tweed Heads.
