Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

Surname incorrectly recorded as Frus on nominal rolls, correct surname Friis. Full name (Andrew) Andrea Darling Friis.

When Andrew Darling Frus (Friis) enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. O. H. Frus, Sacristan County, Durham, England. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 131, the correct spelling of his surname Friis is used.

(Andrew) Andrea Darling Friis was born on 21 Dec 1879 at Brisbane, a son to Ole Hojland Friis and Hansine Frederikke Friis (nee Wittendarff). He married Ellen Lindsay on 17 Dec 1902 in Queensland and they had 4 children. When he passed in 1952 his funeral notice, under the name of Andrew Darling Friis, included a request for members of the South African War Veterans Association to attend.
