John William Gallwey enlisted twice for service in the South African War. First service was as a Private (SN. 47) in 2nd Queensland Mounted Infantry and then second service was as a Private (SN. 55) in 7th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse. The Bore War Dossier attached is for his second service and when he enlisted in 1902 he noted he was married to Ellen.
