Maternal Uncle
The only time I met Paddy was when he came to visit my mum briefly before he flew to the Commonwealth Games.
I recall him being a gently spoken man who was delighted to see his niece again.

Pat was the sixth of thirteen children of William Charles Buckby (born 1856 in Brisbane, QLD) and Charlotte Mary O'Sullivan (born 1862 in Tipperary, Ireland). Charlotte arrived in Brisbane, QLD in April 1869 on board the Young Australia. William - a Labourer and Wood Carter - married in 1880 in Charters Towers, QLD, where they settled and raised their family.
Pat was a Labourer in Charters Towers, QLD when he enlisted in the AIF in December 1915 (he had previously been rejected because he was too short). He served as a Private (Service No:5336) with 17th Reinforcements 15th Infantry Battalion. He was WiA on three occsaions - in 1917 he received a Shell Wound to his elbow; and in 1918 he was Gassed and suffered a GSW to the left thigh. He was Discharged in September 1919. Pat was one of five brothers who served in WWI - twins Harvey James (Private; Service No:2345) and Joseph (David) Harvey (Lance Corporal; Service No:903), James Alfred (Private/Shoeing Smith: Service No:250), Edward (Ned) Arthur (Private; Service No:52976).
Patrick settled in Ayr, QLD where he worked as a Labourer before moving to Cape Pallarenda in Townsville, QLD. In 1974 he travelled to New Zealand for the Commonwealth Games and died there (New Zealand Death Index).
