Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When John Claudius Gourgaud enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. C. Gourgaud, State School, Upper Coomera. In the Boer War Service Paybooks of the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 28, it is noted part of his pay was directed to a joint account held with P. A. Gourgaud (his younger brother Percival Albert Gourgaud).
John Claudius Gourgaud was born on 27 Feb 1880 in Queensland, a son to Claudius Gourgaud and Mary Jane Gourgaud (nee Barnes). He married Bridget "Bride" Foley on 17 Feb 1909 at Townsville and they had 2 children. Following his return from the Boer war he had a long career with the Queensland Public Service. He served in various positions with the Lands Dept. and also with the Justice Dept. and Births, Deaths and Marriages, in locations through Queensland but principally in north western and northern Queensland.
