BOER WAR
VETERAN, DIES
Mr John Leslie Goyen, of 22 Swanston St., New Town, a veteran of the Boer War, died on Sunday in his 70th year. Mr Goyen, who is survived by his wife and a family of two sons and three daughters, was until his retirement a senior constable in the Police Force. During his life he was a keen and active sportsman, particularly in rifle shooting, in which sport he represented Tasmania in the interstate Dunlop Shield shoot. Members of the South African Returned Soldiers' Association followed his flag-draped casket to the place of interment at Cornelian Bay cemetery on Tuesday. Services were conducted by the Rev H. C. Cuthbertson, and a bugler sounded "The Last Post." Chief mourners were Messrs Max and Ken Goyen (sons), Mr Harry Goyen (brother), Messrs S. Shadwick, F. Ryan, A. Hurd (brothers in-law), and Messrs J. Bevan, L. Lloyd, and G. Hills (sons-in-law). Mr Hills also represented the Campbell Town Rifle Club. Insp Smith represented the Superintendent of Police (Mr Hill). Funeral arrangements were by
