Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Thomas Graham first enlisted in 1900 in the 4th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 19 May 1900, he gave his address as Clermont. In the Boer War Service paybooks for the 4th QIB, Bk 2 p. 62, it is noted that he directed part of his pay to Miss Helena Elliott, Bristol St, West End. It should be noted he had joined the 4th QIB prior to 19 Apr 1900 which is the date of the start of his pay records.
He was invalided from the 4th QIB and returned to Brisbane where he was discharged on 21 Jan 1901. He then re-enlisted later in 1901 embarking with the first draft of the 6th QIB on 20 Aug 1901. In the Boer war Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 4 p. 38, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his now wife, Helena Graham, Gregory Terrace, Brisbane.
Thomas Graham was born on 1 Oct 1867 in the Moree Plains Shire district of NSW, a son to Thomas Graham and Emily Graham (nee Stewart). He married Henrietta Helena Elliott (known as Helena) on 26 Apr 1900 and they had 2 children before he passed in 1905. Prior to his passing he was working as a warder on St. Helena Island which at the time was an operational prison off Brisbane.
