Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Patrick Roger Fullerton Grant enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father A. C. Grant, Moreheads Limited, Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 124, a note in the Remarks column indicates his war gratuity was paid in South Africa. A newspaper report appearing in the Brisbane Courier in May 1902 indicates he was discharged in South Africa to take up employment there.

Patrick Roger Fullerton Grant was born on 15 Jun 1882 at Brisbane, a son to Alexander Charles Grant and Sarah Elizabeth Grant (nee North). His father died at Long Beach, California in 1930 and obituaries were published in Queensland newspapers from which the following is obtained.

His father was from Scotland and after venturing to Queensland in the late 1860s became a pioneering pastoralist in North Queensland. After retiring from pastoral interests he went to Brisbane and became manager at Morehead and Co and also was active in journalism and literature. Around 1902 he decided to look at pursuing pastoral interests elsewhere, looking at Argentina before settling on a property near Los Angeles, California.

A number of online genealogical sites contain bio's for Patrick Roger Fullerton Grant, with the following info derived from the FamilySearch online bio, see links. It appears Patrick followed his father to California settling in Los Angeles. During WW2 it appears he completed a "United States World War 2 Draft Registration Card" with a link provided to the card on the FamilySearch bio. On the card he noted he was Patrick Roger Grant; he was born on 15 Jun 1882 at Brisbane, Australia; and his N.O.K. was his wife Carmen M. Grant, Los Angeles.

The bio indicates he married Carmen Miranda (b. Mexico 1889) around 1923 and they had a number of children. It notes Patrick passed on the 26 Jun 1950 at Los Angeles but does not disclose internment details. His father was interned at the Inglewood Park Cemetery, Los Angeles. The bio links to his wife Carmen Miranda, indicating she passed on 18 Jan 1973 and is buried at the Inglewood Park Cemetery.
