Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Cyril John Gregory enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as J. B. Gregory, Moreton, Hampstead, Devonshire, England. In the original nominal roll of the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. is recorded as having been his father.

Newspaper reports in Feb 1902 report that Cyril J. Gregory was dangerously ill with enteric fever and hospitalised. In the Boer War Service Pybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 191, does not provide a discharge date. It does note his address post discharge as being, No. 2703 Constable C. J. Gregory, D Mobile Troop, S/A Constabulary, Pretoria, indicating he was discharged in South Africa to join the police force.
