When John David Hall enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother, Mrs. J. Hall, Belfast, Ireland. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 1 p. 62, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his aunty Mrs. S. Hamilton, Yandina.

He enlisted again in 1917 for WW1 and on his Attestation Form, dated 28 May 1917, its noted that; he was born at Belfast, Ireland, on 17 Sep 1873; he was an engine driver and married with 6 children; his N.O.K. was his wife Mrs. Christina Catherine Marion Hall, Yandina; and he had previously served in South Africa.

John David Hall was born on 17 Sep 1873 at Belfast, Northern Ireland, a son to John Hall and Elizabeth Hall (nee McGarrell). He married Christine Catherine Marion Low on 27 Aug 1902 in Queensland and they had 7 children.

In information provided by a grand-daughter for his bio on the Australian Boer War Memorial database it is noted he returned to Yandina after the Boer war and worked a mixed farm as well as working as an engineer. He also maintained an interest in horses including race horses.
