When Alfred Villiers Hemming enlisted in 1902 in the 1st BACH (Qld unit 7th Contingent) and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 1 Feb 1902, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. Hemming, The Oaks, Wells, Essex, England. In the original Nominal Roll of the 1st Battalion Aust. Commonwealth Horse, Qld units p. 2, it is noted his N.O.K. was his mother Mrs. Wells, The Oaks, Woodford Wells, Essex, England.
