Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Claud(e) Graham Morphett Henderson enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. A. S. Henderson, Cummins, Glenelg, South Australia.
Claude Graham Morphet Henderson was born in 1878, a son to George Henderson and Adelaid Sturt Henderson (nee Morphett). There appears to be debate as to whether he was born at Glenelg, South Australia, or Auckland, New Zealand.
His mother, Adelaide Sturt Morphett was the daughter of Sir John Morphett (a pioneer in the establishment of the state of South Australia) and Elizabeth Fisher, born aboard ship enroute to South Australia. Her father established the family home "Cummins House" at Morphettville/Glenelg, now on the heritage register of South Australia.
Adelaide married George Henderson from New Zealand at Glenelg in South Aistralia in 1864. They appear to have resided at times in both New Zealand and South Australia with some of their 5 children born in each location. While Claude appears on the BDM NZ death register in 1964, it has not been possible to find his birth registration on the online indexes available for South Australia and New Zealand. Several online genealogy sites establish his birth year as 1878 but vary as to whether he was born at Auckland or Glenelg.
