Robert Alexander Horne was born on 8 Apr 1879 at Warwick, Queensland, a son to William Horne and Rose Anna Horne (nee Devine). 

He also served in WW1, S.N. 256, Gunner, 1st Field Artillery Brigade AIF. He noted on his WW1 Attestation Form his previous Boer War service.
