Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

There are discrepancies in the recording of his name noting it appears he was not sworn in at the same time as the majority of the rank and file of the 6th QIB. AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 517, records him as Albert Ernest Hudson whereas the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 200, records him as Ernest Albert Hudson.

He does not appear on either the original nominal roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, or the list of rank and file that embarked with the 6th QIB published in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901. The Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 200, notes he was sworn in on board the Victoria enroute to South Africa on 29 Apr 1901, just a few days prior to the 6th QIB disembarking at Cape Town on 2 May 1901.

This suggests he boarded at a port of call on the way to South Africa, or was a civilian/member of crew aboard Victoria, and he decided to enlist enroute. The Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB indicate that he was discharged in South Africa on 14 May 1902, and that his address post discharge was Hull, England, suggesting he may have been originally from England and returned there after his war service.
