Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Percy James Juchau enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published (under Juchan) with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as C. F. Juchan J.P., Murrundi, NSW. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 105, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his father Mr. C. Juchau J.P., Murrurundi, NSW.

Percy James Juchau was born in 1883 at Murrurundi, NSW, a son to Charles Francis Juchau and Lucinda Mary Juchau (nee Evans). BDM NSW records his birth under James Percy Juchan and his death under Percy James Juchau. Following his return invalided from the Boer War in 1902 he returned to Murrurundi.

He married (under the name Percy James Juchan) Ada E. Frost in 1904 at Sydney and they had 5 children. By 1913 he was involved in a company Jackson and Juchau Pty Ltd operating as Customs and Transport Agents from Macquarie Place and Annandale in Sydney. In addition, in 1935 newspaper reports indicate he also held an oyster farming lease on the Georges River while living at Sylvania, Sydney.
