George William KEMSLEY was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1871

His parents were John Cole KEMSLEY & Louisa STREET who married on 6th September, 1864 in Bisley, St John the Baptist in Surrey, England

He served as a Private in the 2nd Tasmanian Imperial Bushmen and was promoted to Corporal on 26th May, 1900 and then to Sergeant on 2nd January, 1901

He also served as a Lieutenant in the 8th Battalion of the Commonwealth Horse - he remained in South Africa after the end of the Boer War & maried Anna Margaretha ADSHADE on 26th June 1915 in Johannesburg, South Africa - three known children, Derwent Bowen & Merna Margaret & George

George died in Potgieterust, South Africa on 14th December, 1940 and was buried there

George was Mentioned in Dispatches on 8th April, 1901 and received a DCM on 29th July, 1902 while in the Australian Commonwealth Horse, C Squadron
