20 Aug 1901: Embarked Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 650, 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 506 & 518 notes he was part of the 1st draft which embarked at Sydney 20 Aug 1901 aboard Britannic arriving Cape Town 22 Sep 1901.
23 Jun 1902: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 650, 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 508 notes the 6th embarked at Durban 17 May 1902 aboard Devon returning to Australia arriving Brisbane 17 Jun 1902, disbanded 23 Jun 1902.

Herbert William Keogh served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Bugler (Private) S.N. 193 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, and Second as a Private S.N. 650 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll p. 471 and 518).

During his first service he suffered a gunshot wound to the head but continued with the battle earning him a mention in despatches and the award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal (source AWM Honours and Awards).
