Michael Patrick Kielly served twice in the South African (Boer) War, first as a Private S.N. 167 in the 3rd Queensland Mounted Infantry, second as a Private S.N. 932 in the 1st Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse (source AWM Boer War Nominal Roll, Murray p. 470 and 524; and National Archives Australia Boer War Dossier of 2nd service).
