When Leonard Wallace King enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his sister L. M. King (Lillian Mary Fullerton King), East St, Ashburton, New Zealand.

Leonard Wallace King was born in 1874 at Christchurch, New Zealand, a son to Thomas Fullerton King and Louisa Jane King (nee Robinson). He married Edith Harriet Lacey on 31 Jul 1907 in Queensland and they had 2 children.

He enlisted again in 1915 for WW1 and on his Attestation Form dated 22 Oct 1915 he noted; he was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and was 42 years 10 months of age; he worked as an engine driver; he was married to Mrs. Edith Harriet King living at Mount Chalmers; and he had previously served in the Boer War with the Imperial Bushmen.
