After 35 Years
After 35 years' absence in South Africa, where he went to serve in the Boer War, Colonel H. J. Kirkpatrick passed through Fremantle today in the m.v. Bullaren. It is his first visit to the Commonwealth since leaving for the South African campaign, and he  intends to live in retirement with relatives in Victoria. Following his discharge from the army in South Africa, Colonel Kirkpatrick joined the police and retired six years ago when he was deputy commissioner of police. He said today that with its enormous mining resources, South Africa was in a sound position and its future prosperity seemed assured.
