Add my storyBiography contributed by Claude McKelvey
When Albert John Lancaster enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. J. C. Frederickson, Macleay River, NSW. Referring to the original Nominal Roll for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent Queensland Defence Force for service in South Africa, held by National Archives, the correct details for his N.O.K. was his mother Mrs. Jane Christian, Frederickton, Macleay River, NSW.
Albert John Lancaster was born on 5 Nov 1866 at Pola Creek via East Frederickton, NSW, a son to James Henry Lancaster and Jane Lancaster (nee Norton). His father passed when he was still a boy and he was sent to Colac, Victoria, to live with an uncle, Rev. John Norton. His mother remarried in 1886 to Cornelius Christian at Sydney.
He returned to Sydney as a young man and was working as the first officer at the Bank of Australasia at Newtown when the outbreak of the Boer War occured. He left his position with the bank and travelled to Brisbane to enlist with the Qld Imperial Bushmen.
Upon completion of his war service he returned to East Frederickton where he took up farming. He married Lydia Virginia Arthur on 20 Feb 1907 at South West Rocks. They made their home at Frederickton where they had 8 children. He was involved in local sport and community organisations, as a player with the local football club and served for a period as the secretary of the Frederickton Aquatic Club.
