Biography contributed

When Charles Henry Lanfer enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published (under Lanfeer) with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. F. A. Schulte, One-mile, Gympie. It appears he had changed his surname from Laufer to Lanfer and was going by that name prior to enlisting.

His mother had married again after the passing of his father in Brisbane in 1878. Christina Friedricka Wieland first married Jacob Friedrich Laufer on 28 Jun 1877 in Queensland and, following his passing in 1878, married a second time on 27 Jan 1881 to Friedrich August Schulte at Ipswich, Queensland. She had 7 children with her first husband, most born before their official marriage, and a further 5 children with her second husband.

Charles Henry Laufer (Lanfer) was born on 28 Jun 1877 at Walloon via Ipswich, a son to Jacob Friedrich Laufer and Christina Friedricka Laufer (nee Wieland). He married Eva Edgeworth on 17 Jun 1903 at Ipswich and they had 5 children. The extended Laufer family is recorded on the online genealogical site WikiTree and in the bio under the listing of Charles Henry Laufer a life event is noted "6 Mar 1901 to Africa". The 5th QIB embarked for South Africa from Brisbane on 6 Mar 1901.
