Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Robert James Lawson enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Mrs. A. Lawson, South Pine (now Brendale). The original Nominal Roll for the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, notes his N.O.K. was his mother. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 2 p. 102, it is noted he directed part of his pay to a joint account held with his mother Mrs. E. Lawson, South Pine.

Robert James Lawson was born on 21 Jun 1883 in Queensland, a son to Alexander Lawson and Ellen Lawson (nee Rilley). He married Ada Elizabeth Mapp on 19 Dec 1942 in Queensland.
