Note- while Murray has recorded him in the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll as Thomas Broadford Lee his correct name was Thomas Broadfoot Lee.
Prior to his enlisting he was a prominent sporting figure in Gympie as a cyclist, footballer, and jockey. When he enlisted in 1899 in the 1st QMI and his details were published with the rank and file in The Brisbane Courier, 18 Nov 1899, he was recorded as Private T. B. Lee, single, One Mile, Gympie. He served the full tour of the 1st QMI returning to Brisbane where he was discharged on 23 Jan 1901.
While on active service he wrote a letter to his father W. F. Lee of One Mile, Gympie, describing his involvement in the war which was published in The Charters Towers Mining Standard on 25 Jan 1900.
Thomas Broadfoot Lee was born at Gympie on 14 Apr 1876, a son to William Francis Lee and Elizabeth Lee (nee Sutton). He married Honora Teresa Clancy on 6 Jan 1906 in Queensland and they had 7 children.
