Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Frank Grant Lees enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father R. Lees, 4 Greenbank Rd, Edinburgh, Scotland. The original Nominal Roll for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent for service in South Africa, held by National Archives, notes on page 5 that his father was Richard Lees.

Francis Grant Lees was born in 1875 in the parish of Wilton, Scotland, a son to Richard Lees and Sarah Jane Lees (nee Stewart).

Newspaper reports in Mar 1902 note that he was discharged in South Africa on 26 Mar 1902 to take up employment there.
