23 Jun 1902: Discharged Australian and Colonial Military Forces - Boer War Contingents, Private, 42, 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, AWM Boer War Unit Details, Murray p. 508 notes 6th QIB embarked at Durban 17 May 1902 aboard Devon returning to Australia arriving Brisbane 17 Jun 1902, disbanded 23 Jun 1902.

Served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW2First service was as a Private S.N. 42 in the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service as as a Private S.N. N291454 in the 16 Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps (Home Service-Part Time).

When he enlisted in 1901 in the 6th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 13 Apr 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as Thomas Lillie, Tweed River, NSW. In the original nominal roll of the 6th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, his N.O.K. is recorded as being his father. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 6th QIB, Bk 1 p. 60, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his mother Mrs. M. Lilley, Chindera, Tweed River, NSW.

He enlisted again in 1942 for WW 2 (home service). On his Attestation Form, dated 27 Mar 1942, it was noted that; he was born at Chindera, NSW, on 19 Jul 1883; he was married and a dairy farmer; his N.O.K. was his wife Hannah Sarah Lilley, Thora, Bellinger River, NSW; and he had previously served in the Boer war.

Arthur Reuben Lillie was born on 19 Jul 1883 at Chindera, NSW, a son to Thomas Lillie and Margaret Lillie (nee Scott). He married Hannah Sarah Hobart in Aug 1919 at Bellingen and they had 1 child. He was a dairyman working his farm on the Bellinger River.
