Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

James William Lindore (birth registration William Joseph Lindore) was born on 3 Feb 1875 in Brisbane, Queensland, a son to Gilbert Lindore and Annie Lindore (nee Jordan). He married Anna Macgregor Mohr on 1 Jan 1902 in Brisbane, Queensland and they had two children.

He served in the South African (Boer) War under the name of James William Lindore. He enlisted again in 1914 under the same name for service in WW1 but was discharged prior to embarking.

After 1914 he relocated to NSW where he was residing at Taree when his sister-in-law contacted Army Records in 1955, see Boer War Dossier. She indicated he had no other family left in Australia with one surviving daughter in the USA, was in poor health and they were trying to establish eligibility for his placement in an Old Soldiers Home at Caboolture in Qld. Reference is made to the NSW Government Gazette in 1956 for appointment of an executor to the estate of William Joseph Lindore, late of Taree, where it is noted he was also known as James William Lindore.
