Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

His surname has been recorded incorrectly by Murray on the AWM Boer War Nominal Roll as Lissnor. The original Nominal Roll for the 5th Queensland (Imperial Bushmen) Contingent, Queensland Defence Force for service in South Africa, held by National Archives Australia; the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB; and BDM Qld birth registration all record his surname as Lissner.

When Isidor George Lissner enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as J. Lisner, Bowen Hills. The original nominal roll held by National Archives Australia notes his N.O.K. as his father I. Lissner, Bowen Hills.

Isidor George Lissner was born on 26 Jan 1882 in Queensland, a son to Isidor Lissner and Margaret Louisa Lissner (nee Ross). His father Isidor Siegfried Lissner had been a Member of The Queensland Legislative Assembly elected to parliament in the 1890s representing the Kennedy ellectorate when he was based in Charters Towers, and served a stint as the Mines Minister. The heritage listed Boer War Memorial Kiosk in Charters Towers is located in Lissner Park which was named in honour of his father's service to the area.

Isidor George Lissner married Emily Maud Hodel on 19 Sep 1906 in Queensland with their first child born the same year in Queensland. By 1909 they were living in Sydney, NSW, when their second child was born. His wife and children are all recorded as passing in NSW but no record could be found for the passing of Isidor George Lissner.
