Biography contributed by Claude McKelvey

When Joseph Lock enlisted in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his mother Mrs. E. Calcino, Railway Hotel, Charleville. In the original nominal roll for the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen Contingent, held by National Archives, it is noted his mother was Mrs. Eliza Calcino.

Joseph Lock was born on 5 Dec 1877 in Queensland, a son to Joseph Lock and Eliza Lock (nee Trayhorn). However, his father never got to see his son born as he tragically passed in Aug 1877. His mother, Eliza, then married Francisco Calcino on 1 Mar 1879 in Queensland and they resided at Charleville. Joseph Lock married Catherine Shepley on 15 May 1918 at St Paul's Church, East Brisbane and they would have 2 children.
