Full name Ernest Godfrey Loseby.
Served in both the South African (Boer) war and WW1. First service was as a Private S.N. 420, 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen, Boer War. Second service was as a Private S.N. 1942, 49th Infantry Battalion AIF, WW1.
When he enlisted as Ernest Loseby in 1901 in the 5th QIB and his details were published with the rank and file in The Queenslander, 16 Mar 1901, he noted his N.O.K. as his father A. Loseby, Ice Company, Brisbane. In the Boer War Service Paybooks for the 5th QIB, Bk 3 p. 86, it is noted he directed part of his pay to his sister Mrs. A. Bryans (Amy Catherine Loseby Bryans), Torrence St, Woolloongabba.
He enlisted again as Ernest Godfrey Loseby in 1916 for WW1. On his Attestation Paper, dated 15 Jan 1916, it is noted that; he was born at Maryborough and was 42 years 3 months old; he was married and a labourer; his N.O.K. was his wife Mrs. E Loseby, Dalby Sanotorium (later changed to New Farm); and he had previously served in South Africa.
Ernest Godfrey Loseby was born on 17 Oct 1873 at Maryborough, a son to Arthur Godfery Loseby and Elizabeth Loseby (nee Rattenbury). He married Elizabeth Martin on 7 Sep 1896 in Queensland and they had 2 children before he enlisted for the Boer war. It appears his wife had been feeling poorly for some time noting he did not record her as N.O.K. on Boer war enlistment, and on his WW1 attestation paper she was originally recorded as being at Dalby Sanotorium, later changed to New Farm, Qld. His WW1 service record indicates he was serving abroad when the army notified him his wife had sadly passed on 17 Jul 1916 at the young age of 39.
